Our Little Hebrides: The Art of Slow Magic

A life less rushed, captured with intention.

In 2023, after just two years back on the mainland, we made the decision to return to the Isle of Lewis, a place that has always felt more like home than anywhere else. We left a town just outside Glasgow, but our hearts were always here, between the wind and the wild.

I first lived on the island years ago while running my photography business. We left when I was eight months pregnant, seeking family support but as it turns out, that chapter was never meant to be the ending it was just a pause. Our daughter may have been born on the mainland, but she was made on and for these islands.

A Studio for the Unscripted

Our Little Hebrides is more than a name, it’s a creative home.
Here, I offer true documentary family photography for those who need a slower, softer pace. My work honours the quiet moments with no posing, no faked candid smiles, no pressure. Just real life, as it unfolds. It’s especially shaped with sensory-sensitive and neurodivergent families in mind, though really, it’s for anyone craving something more authentic than picture-perfect.

Photography, for me, is a way of noticing, a way of slowing down, a way of saying: This moment mattered.

A Life Reshaped

I’m six years sober, mostly plant-based (with the exception of eggs and honey), and slowly learning what it means to live in alignment. At 37, after a lifetime of wondering, I was diagnosed autistic, a realisation that has coloured every part of my world. Now I’m unmasking, relearning, and reshaping my life and work in ways that honour how I think, feel, and move through the world.

We’re home educating our sensory-sensitive daughter by learning through nature, conversation, creativity, and calm. We don’t have all the answers, but we’ve chosen presence over perfection. We trust that children thrive when they feel safe, supported, and seen.
